Massage & Bodywork

Massage is an important part of any person’s integrated wellness plan but an especially important tool for moving gracefully through the challenges of pregnancy and birth – for the mother, the child, and the whole family.

Conception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum are times of massive transformation – physically, hormonally, and socially. A time when the support and enjoyment of loving touch is most needed to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Massage increases the circulation of fluids in the body and assists in adaptation to the many changes occurring to support new life. The wide range of the physiological benefits of massage have been demonstrated and accepted in the scientific and bodywork communities.  Many clients experience attest to the following benefits, among others, more optimal hormone secretion and improved respiratory patterns – vital for the comfort and health of both mother and child.  Massage also soothes musculoskeletal strain and pain due to changing patterns of movement, balance, and weight; but most of all massage provides compassionate support in the adventure of child-bearing.

Offering Massage & Bodywork for all phases of child-bearing and family forming, with emphasis on Pregnancy Massage and Somatic Education.  Joie trained under Mariah Blackwolf, who fluidly adapted Looyen Work (pain-free deep tissue work) to pregnancy massage.  Joie uses her Somatic Educator certification to take massage to another level, bodywork that is supportive for the phases of life, suited to each unique individual.  In her practice, she includes fertility, family member support, birth and postpartum massage and bodywork.  The process of showing up for clients, right where they are, and providing usable tools to develop body awareness and to deepen the embodyment experience, is where she finds her niche as a practitioner.  Enjoying our bodies is such a gift, and sometimes it takes that **Invitation to heal**  Joie is Certified to practice in California, and licensed in San Francisco.
